Chapter 82: Arrival in S City

Apocalypse Invasion: Survival on the Infinite Train

A loud "bang" echoed through the air.

The moment the body was struck, it exploded instantly. However, due to the immense force of the impact, the insects that burst out were scattered quite far away.

Black Bear, who had ducked behind the vehicle just in time, felt a lingering fear. He had never expected this to be a severely parasitized host, and one that was on the verge of exploding at that.

Ming Chu, however, was not as relaxed as Black Bear. She sternly commanded Wind Leopard, who was beside her, "Tell the vehicles behind us to back up! Don't let any insects crawl inside!"

Li Liang and Zhang Ming in the rear vehicles had not been wearing special protective gear. After the insects exploded, aside from the ones that died, several others that had been near the rear vehicles seemed to hesitate before scurrying toward them.

Wind Leopard acted decisively. He immediately used the walkie-talkie to issue orders to the vehicles behind, then stepped out of his own vehicle to gather the surrounding insects and burn them all.

After confirming that all the insects, save for the ones they had captured, were incinerated, Ming Chu and the others set off once again.

Little did they know, less than five minutes after they left, other severely parasitized hosts were drawn to the area by the lingering scent. The first one to arrive threw itself directly into the fire, and those behind it followed suit.

However, the fire had already died down significantly by then, and with them throwing themselves into it, the flames were extinguished entirely.

Several severely parasitized hosts stumbled as they climbed up. Before they could do anything else, they witnessed the first person explode.

Then, one explosion followed another in rapid succession.

A pile of insects and insect carcasses lay on the ground. The surviving parasites began to frantically gnaw on the remains of their own kind. Once the corpses of their kin and the human remains were consumed, they began to devour and slaughter one another.

In the end, a single insect as thick as a human wrist emerged victorious. It bore black stripes on its body and, following the scent it could detect, it left the area.

The second half of their journey went relatively smoothly for Ming Chu and her team.

Having gained experience from the first encounter, they did not stop their vehicles again when they encountered people along the roadside.

Furthermore, there were few people on the highway once they got on it. Driving at high speed, they were already able to see S City by the time the sky began to darken.

Originally, Ming Chu and the others were supposed to head to the laboratory in the city center, but by the time they reached S City and made contact, the instructions had changed.
