Apocalypse Invasion: Survival on the Infinite Train
Of course, Ming Chu and the others couldn't stay the night at the small estate; time was of the essence, and they had to take most of the items today.
Zhong Shuang lay back down. There was no need to persuade the aunt and uncle anymore; as far as Zhong Shuang was concerned, it didn't matter whether she was present for the rest of the tasks.
It was only after getting into the vehicle that the aunt and uncle realized Ming Chu's earlier comment about no one taking care of Zhong Shuang was a joke. Clearly, everyone was looking after her. Zhong Yue took the initiative to help Zhong Shuang wash up, and Chang Zhou had already stewed a pot of soup, allowing everyone to have a bowl—especially Zhong Shuang, whose bowl seemed to have a fair amount of medicinal herbs added to it.
Naturally, the aunt and uncle also got a bowl.
And it was incredibly delicious.
In the end, the aunt and uncle simply laid out soft cotton quilts on Zhong Shuang's bed. Because the bed was too narrow, they folded the quilts into three layers, and one would almost sink into them when lying down.
Yet, Zhong Shuang was very calm.
Her parents had passed away when she was ten. Her grandfather was a man who cherished the past; even after modern mattresses became widely available, he still preferred soft cotton quilts, especially those that had been sun-dried, as they carried the warm scent of the sun.
Thus, Zhong Shuang had grown up sleeping under such quilts. Closing her eyes, she felt exceptionally at peace.
The aunt and uncle made a floor bed nearby—it wasn't that the others didn't respect their elders, but they were afraid the couple might fall from the upper bunks, and the lower bunk wasn't large enough for two. With an extra layer of quilts on the floor, they slept quite comfortably.
The soundproofing of the RV was excellent. Only a little of the rain outside leaked in, sounding like comfortable white noise that was very hypnotic.
The aunt and uncle were no longer young, and feeling sleepy, they gradually drifted off.
Chang Zhou and Tali also went to sleep, leaving only Ming Chu in the passenger seat to keep Yan Yan company.
About half an hour later, they arrived at the second warehouse.
Without waking the others, Ming Chu gently pushed the door open and beckoned to Zhong Yue, who was still awake, in the back.
Zhong Yue walked over on tiptoe. Sensing the vehicle slowing down, she lowered her voice and asked, "Are we almost there?"
