Apocalypse Invasion: Survival on the Infinite Train
The fact that the Divine Tree had a guardian was only vaguely known to the top brass of the base.
Ironically, this information was discovered through fragments of things Shen Chuan had let slip.
Even more ironically, the giant python didn't appear during the biannual battle for Divine Fruits, and few of the other exceptionally large beasts joined the fray—this was actually the result of a negotiation between the giant python and Shen Chuan.
The giant python was very intelligent. It knew humans had many strange weapons and were difficult to deal with, so after Shen Chuan persuaded it with both reason and emotion, it took a step back.
It gave humans a chance.
The Divine Fruits didn't just ripen once every six months; that was just when they ripened in larger quantities, which was when humans could come to compete.
Of course, it wasn't a gift to humans; it was just giving them a chance.
The giant python wasn't kind to that extent; it had never had any feelings for humans.
But human greed knows no bounds.
When they could only get forty or fifty fruits each year, the base felt it wasn't enough to go around.
Even if they could create nearly a hundred evolved individuals, too many people died in the apocalypse. It wasn't as if evolved individuals were immortal; many died just in the process of competing for the Divine Fruits.
But because of what Shen Chuan had once said about the Divine Tree having a powerful guardian, the base didn't dare to attack the Divine Tree directly.
Some people valued their own lives more and didn't want to truly fight for the Divine Tree.
Greedy yet afraid to act, they eventually reached a balance with the giant python.
It was just that after Shen Chuan was gone, there was no longer any communication between humans and the beasts.
And the fact that the Divine Tree had a guardian beast was only known to the few leaders at the head of the base, but even they had never seen it with their own eyes.
Having prepared themselves mentally, they were still terrified at the sight of that giant snake head, let alone the others who were completely in the dark.
"What, what kind of monster is this!!!"
