Chapter 9: The Armory

Apocalypse Invasion: Survival on the Infinite Train

In this apocalyptic era, one must stay on guard when encountering anything abnormal.

Brother Wang and Ming Chu stood directly at the doorway and refused to go inside. Brother Wang asked with a cold face, "Is she injured?"

"No, no, my colleague just suddenly developed a fever, and I wanted to ask if you have any medicine." The female police officer hurriedly explained. Seeing that Brother Wang seemed about to leave, she gritted her teeth. "You came to the police station for firearms, right? I know where they are, and I know the password. I can take you to get the weapons."

Brother Wang pondered for a moment and asked Ming Chu, "Do you still have fever medicine in your bag?"

Ming Chu nodded. "I have both fever medicine and anti-inflammatory drugs."

Only then did Brother Wang say, "Then I'll wait for you outside. Don't lock the door. Have her strip off her patient's clothes and check her. If anything happens, scream and call me immediately."

The female officer had no objections. Seeing that Brother Wang had gone outside, she generously began to undress her colleague.

Her colleague's face and neck weren't the only things that were red; her entire body was red, and Ming Chu even saw that the female officer's hands were scalded red.

Could this person possibly recover?

Ming Chu was bewildered, but indeed, there were no wounds on the colleague's body. Ming Chu blushed without looking away, even checking the insides of her thighs and her hair. After confirming, she whispered, "You should quickly put clothes on her. Aside from the fever medicine, I also have anti-inflammatory drugs and cooling patches here. Go ahead and use them on her."

"Okay, okay, thank you so much." The female officer was immensely grateful.

Ming Chu took out two more bottles of water. "You and she should both drink some water. You can also use water to wipe down her body to bring the fever down."

The female officer simply didn't rush to dress her colleague, putting just a tank top and workout shorts on her so her limbs, waist, and abdomen were all exposed.

Her own mouth was dry and peeling because the water in this room had previously all been fed to her colleague. With only a short stun baton as a weapon, dealing with the two zombies outside was too difficult, and she hadn't dared to go look for water.

Now that she had the water, she didn't rush to drink it herself. Instead, she first fed her colleague the medicine with water.

After half a bottle had been fed down, she drank just two or three mouthfuls herself, and used the rest to dampen some already-dried wet wipes to meticulously wipe her colleague's body.

Whether it was because wiping the body to lower the fever was useful, because the fever medicine was highly effective, or because the cooling patch also played a part, Ming Chu saw that the redness on the colleague's body had faded significantly.

Brother Wang walked in from outside. His gaze didn't deliberately avoid the colleague, but he didn't deliberately look at her either. His sole concern was, "Can you take us to get the weapons now?"

"Yes." The female officer needed weapons herself, and having Brother Wang and Ming Chu accompany her was actually more advantageous for her.

She left a note in her colleague's hand, and when she left with Brother Wang and Ming Chu, she didn't forget to use the key to double-lock the door.

"The armory is on the basement level. You could say you came at the right time. Our police station just received a new batch of weapons that were supposed to be distributed in a couple of days, but the outbreak happened before we had the chance. You know how to use a gun, right?"

That last sentence was directed at Brother Wang.

In truth, her initiative in exposing her presence wasn't just because Brother Wang was strong; it was also because Ming Chu had brought medicine, and Ming Chu looked very young—unlikely to even be of legal age—with eyes that radiated a clear, innocent foolishness, making her look completely harmless.

Therefore, the Brother Wang who could bring Ming Chu along should, no matter how fierce he was, still have some bottom line.

Now that the medicine was in hand, it proved her gamble had paid off.

"Mn, I know how." Brother Wang glanced at the female officer and said, "Even if we have a backpack, we won't be able to take that many weapons. Rest assured."

The female officer smiled. "I'm not worried about you taking everything."

The armory was on the basement level. There was no parking garage on the basement level of the police station, so it could only be accessed from the ground floor.

The elevator down was specially constructed as a standalone car that required a keycard to activate.

After descending, past a corridor about five meters long, lay the door to the armory.

The door, comparable to a bank vault, had a dual lock system consisting of a numeric keypad and a keyhole. Without any hesitation, the female officer took out the key, inserted it, and turned it three times to the left. Upon hearing a click, she began punching in the password on the activated screen.

After inputting the seven-digit code, the heavy door of the armory finally swung open.

Then, Ming Chu understood why the female officer said she wasn't afraid of them taking all the weapons.

How could a police station that looked so small actually house so many weapons?

There were forty or fifty handguns, seven rifles, three sniper rifles, hundreds of crates of various ammunition, and even five crates of grenades.

Ming Chu couldn't help asking, "Can I choose any of these?"

"You can choose whatever you can carry away," the female officer replied readily with a nod.

At that moment, Ming Chu cursed the small size of her spatial storage. Although she had taken out those earlier items, the freed-up space still wasn't even the size of a suitcase; she clearly couldn't take away very much.

"Can that sniper rifle be taken apart? I want to take it too," Ming Chu said decisively, pointing straight at the weapon that looked the most powerful.

Are you kidding? Given conditions this good, if she couldn't get her hands on some real firepower, she definitely wouldn't be able to sleep at night.

As for not knowing how to use it?

Wasn't Brother Wang here? Over the coming days, she could study hard.

"...You're better suited for a handgun," Brother Wang explained earnestly. "The recoil of a sniper rifle is too strong; you won't be able to handle it."

"I'll give up a portion of the handgun quota I could have taken, leaving only one handgun and one hundred bullets. I'll use the remaining space for the sniper rifle and its rounds."

Seeing her insistence, Brother Wang didn't try to persuade her further.

Instead, he stepped forward and swiftly dismantled a sniper rifle for Ming Chu. As he took it apart, he said, "Once we get back, I'll teach you how to assemble it. But if you find it too heavy in the future and throw the sniper rifle away, I won't issue you a new gun."

"Okay." Ming Chu didn't mind in the least.

Brother Wang found a specialized multi-pocket bag, packed the sniper rifle parts inside, and then led Ming Chu over to get the sniper ammunition.

There weren't many sniper rounds in the armory—only about 300 in total. Because sniper bullets were rather large, Brother Wang told Ming Chu to take 50, then turned around to lead her to select a handgun and ammunition.

After walking a few steps, however, he noticed Ming Chu hadn't followed. He looked back and saw Ming Chu stepping down from the top of the sniper ammunition crate.

"Did you take more bullets?"

"No, no, I didn't take any. I was just looking," Ming Chu said, feeling a guilty conscience.

Out of the 300 rounds, besides the 50 she had openly taken, she had quietly pocketed another 150.

The remaining 100 were left just in case anyone else came later to take the sniper rifle and found themselves without ammo.

"You guys close the door yourselves later. The button over here locks it—make sure you lock it," the female officer instructed primarily to Brother Wang. "We want to keep the weapons here from spilling out into the outside world as much as possible."

Especially since there was no guarantee of the character of people who might come later.

Brother Wang gave his word.

Anxious about her colleague, the female officer hurried back upstairs.

Ming Chu's eyes instantly lit up.

With the female officer—who was familiar with the inventory—out of the picture, wouldn't she be able to smuggle away even more weapons to her heart's content?
