Apocalypse Invasion: Survival on the Infinite Train
At noon, Ming Chu found a place with a water source and stopped.
The RV was brought out, and Chang Zhou naturally rolled up his sleeves and started bustling about in the kitchen, while Ming Chu took Amu to squat by the water, watching the fish.
Seeing a fish pass by nearby, Ming Chu stabbed and flicked with her military knife, and a three-to-four-pound fish was tossed onto the bank.
There was a faint scent of blood in the water, and something seemed to move in the deeper, darker parts.
Amu looked at the bottom of the water sharply, but couldn't see anything. She didn't think much of it, let out a "wow," and wanted to learn how to catch fish from Ming Chu.
Ming Chu touched the bridge of her nose, facing the child's admiring gaze, and said: "I don't really have any technique; I'm just purely fast."
"I can be fast too," Amu said earnestly. "If I could catch fish, I could have caught fish to feed Sister Awuh when she was injured."
The child was too sensible. Ming Chu's heart softened. She patted the child's head, helped her sharpen a fork, and said: "You can try to see if you can spear a fish."
The child was immediately excited. She squatted on the bank. The fish in this pool were actually quite slow; Amu would stab whenever she saw one, and although the fish would get scared and run away, they would soon gather back, silly as they were.
After stabbing four or five times, Amu finally speared her first fish.
Her eyes shining, she held up the two-pound fish: "I caught it, Ming Chu, I caught it!"
"Very impressive," Ming Chu gave her a thumbs up. "Keep practicing like this. Once you find the feel for it, you'll be able to catch fish."
"Okay!"
Amu got into it. Ming Chu tossed two fish by the RV, and Chang Zhou took the opportunity to come out, pick them up, gut them, and prepare to make fish soup with the big ones and braise the small ones.
Fortunately, the RV had two stoves, and two rice cookers could also be used at the same time. Chang Zhou was quick and nimble; none of the four pots were empty.
