Apocalypse Invasion: Survival on the Infinite Train
Rabies?
Ming Chu felt a jolt of shock in her heart, and she couldn't help but think of that note.
"Do not get injured!!"
Rabies is transmitted through bites and wounds. Could this apocalypse be caused by rabies?
But there are vaccines for rabies; how could it possibly cause the end of the world?
Ming Chu had no leads. Goosebumps broke out all over her skin, and she lost all interest in savoring the beef noodles. After leaving the shop, she had originally planned to take the bus, but she silently raised her hand and hailed a taxi instead.
Fortunately, it wasn't far from the guesthouse, and the ride cost only 23 yuan. When Ming Chu handed over the cash, the driver was surprised: "People still use cash these days?"
The driver didn't have enough change, so he simply charged her 3 yuan less. Ming Chu took a bottle of water from her shopping bag and smiled apologetically: "Thank you, uncle. This bottle of water is for you."
The driver felt much better. He said to Ming Chu, "Young lady, if you've lost your phone, you should buy a new one quickly. It's really inconvenient without a phone nowadays."
Ming Chu agreed, of course, but she wasn't about to waste money on a phone.
The guesthouse Ming Chu had booked was only five stories tall. From the outside, it looked like an unremarkable building. The guesthouse occupied the second and third floors. Ming Chu walked to the front desk with her money: "Hello, I'd like to book a room."
"Our room rates are listed here. Take a look."
The receptionist pushed a price list toward her. Ming Chu looked it over; the guesthouse offered single rooms, double rooms, twin rooms, and family suites.
The prices went up accordingly.
She was alone, so naturally, she wanted the cheapest option. She pointed to the single room: "Does this single room have a corner unit?"
"Let me check..." The receptionist checked the computer. "There's one on the second floor. Do you want it? But corner units have larger windows, so it's 10 yuan more expensive."
"I'll take it!" Ming Chu gritted her teeth and nodded.
It might have been the off-season, as the guesthouse wasn't expensive—60 yuan a night, plus 10 yuan made it 70. Ming Chu booked it for two nights, and with the deposit, it came to 210 yuan total.
With that, she only had 35 yuan left.
But 35 yuan was enough to eat quite well for two days.
The small single room on the second floor, while a corner unit, wasn't large—about eight square meters. However, the window was quite big. Ming Chu had checked: the window faced a small alleyway below, and there were almost no other doors opening into that alley. She leaned out the window to look; the view was excellent, and she could see at least twenty meters in both directions.
The bed was only a five-foot-wide single bed, but everything else was provided: a water glass, an electric kettle, two cups of instant noodles, and two bottles of water—the water was free, but the noodles were not.
Ming Chu collapsed onto the bed, and only then did the exhaustion wash over her.
But she only lay there for three minutes before getting up to continue her preparations.
There was no need to mention food and drink; Ming Chu had bought supplies in bulk. Forget 30 days—what she had bought would last her 60 days.
When the apocalypse arrived, Ming Chu certainly couldn't walk around carrying a duffel bag. So, she opened her suitcase, put the multifunctional survival pack inside, and then placed the suitcase into the wardrobe.
The moment the wardrobe door closed, the suitcase vanished, and a green-bean-sized, chibi-style suitcase icon appeared next to the vein on Ming Chu's left wrist.
This wilderness survival pack was somewhere between an advanced and a basic version, given how much money Ming Chu had left, but it was very well-equipped.
The survival pack itself was waterproof. Inside, there were flint, a windproof lighter, a magnesium rod, a straight knife, a multifunctional folding plier, five 2-liter water bladders, water purification tablets, a super-compact and lightweight tent, two compasses, a palm-sized solar outdoor light, a headlamp, several glow sticks, a small first-aid kit, a small stove with three gas canisters, three days' worth of energy bars, and a multifunctional engineer's shovel.
To be honest, the straight knife and the engineer's shovel looked much sharper than the two kitchen knives she had bought.
After organizing everything in the storage space and ensuring she knew exactly where everything was, Ming Chu got back to work.
First, Ming Chu went to fill the water bladders.
A single bladder was supposed to hold 2 liters, but once she got her hands on it, Ming Chu felt something was off.
Why was the water so heavy to lift?
Just to be sure, Ming Chu took out a 1.5-liter bottle of mineral water to compare. It wasn't her imagination; the water inside the storage bladder felt like it weighed twice as much.
Wait a minute!
What did her talent say at the time?
[Storage Master: You can easily pack twice the amount of supplies into any storage container.]
So, these water bladders were containers too!
Ming Chu felt her previous thinking had been too narrow. She had actually thrown away the cardboard boxes; otherwise, right now...
But this was enough. Five water bladders could hold 20 liters of water—equivalent to a large water bucket. Even if she couldn't take a shower, it was at least enough for wiping down and brushing her teeth, and it wasn't certain that the water supply would be cut off later.
Furthermore, Ming Chu poured 10 bottles of 1.5-liter water into smaller bottles. She filled them with tap water, and she didn't bother opening more because she was afraid of getting them mixed up and accidentally drinking raw water.
Domestic water +30 liters.
With everything prepared, Ming Chu finally couldn't hold on any longer. She lay on the bed and fell asleep without even taking off her clothes.
When she woke up, it was pitch black outside. Ming Chu turned on the light. Not wanting to go out in the middle of the night, she simply washed the kettle, boiled some mineral water, and made a cup of instant noodles.
The magic of instant noodles lies in the aroma—it's incredibly fragrant.
Ming Chu hadn't had much of an appetite, but smelling the aroma made her crave it.
She added a ham sausage and a marinated egg, turning it into a deluxe bowl of noodles.
Slurping a mouthful, Ming Chu wore an expression of extreme satisfaction.
After finishing the large bowl, Ming Chu threw the noodle cup into the trash, opened the window a crack, and sat by the bed to catch the breeze.
It was only May, so the night air was still a bit chilly.
From here, she could see that everything outside was pitch black, with only the occasional dim light, looking very serene.
She wondered what the world would look like once the doomsday countdown ended.
"Ahhhhh! Get away!! Help!!"
A scream shattered the silence. Ming Chu instinctively ran to the window and saw someone collapsed beneath it, with another person straddling them.
Ming Chu thought it was an assault. She immediately used her phone to record a video for evidence and quickly grabbed a glass from the side, hurling it down.
With a crisp sound of shattering glass, just as Ming Chu had expected, the attacker looked up.
Their face was pale and dead, their teeth had turned into shark-like fangs, and they were chewing on human flesh.
That was clearly a zombie!!
